Rabies : The Killer Diseases
Rabies has always been an enigmatic disease. The invari- able lethality of the disease has persistently and profoundly influenced mankind over the years. In the absence of precis information, a large number of myths have emerged abous the causes, and management of animal bites and hydrap bia. Previous decades have seen tremendous develop in the field of rabies and no aspect of the disease. remained untouched by the modern day tools for diagn as well as prophylaxis. Unfortunately such cummative information is not readily available to physicians. The book Rabies-the killer disease is an attempt to provide such information in a comprehensive manner. This book deals with virology, epidemiology, laboratory and clinical diagno- sis, and control of rabies but the emphasis is overwhelm- ingly on the treatment of a case with hydrophobia and immunoprophylaxis of animal bites. The description en- compasses availability, uses, merits and demerits as well as efficacy of the conventional preventive tools alongwith the newer and emerging vaccines. Each Chapter concludes with answers to many commonly asked questions that are en- countered in day to day clinical practice.
In writing this book, the authors have pooled the experience gathered by them while working at two of the premier research institutes of country viz Central Research Institute, Kasauli and National Institute of Communicable Diseases, Delhi, where pioneer work has been conducted on rabies
